Botanical Month

In May, various exhibitions and lectures are held in order to introduce the fascinating world of herbs and botany.

The events are organized in cooperation with the University Library and Knowledge Centre, the Faculty of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmacognosy, the Faculty of Health Sciences’ Confucius Institute, the Botanical Garden, along with the Nagy Lajos High School of the Cistercian Order within the framework of the Centenary of From the Past Towards the Future.

 


 Programs


Herbs and Illustrations (Exhibition)

Opening: 5 May 2022, 16:00

Location: Knowledge Centre, Hall on ground floor (Universitas str. 2/a)

Within the framework of Herbs and Illustrations, the Faculty of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmacognosy’s permanent exhibition will be presented. In addition to the magnificent works of pharmacy and biology students and lecturers, the exhibition will feature watercolour works painted by professor Rácz-Kotilla Erzsébet, and the Confucius Institute’s original Chinese herbs and plant rarities will also add a facet to the displayed collection.

Virtual  Exhibition in the Pharmacy of Nature

The presentation will include a virtual exhibition of those herbs that play a key role in maintaining our health. It will also provide answers to the questions how to use herbs correctly and what might be the hazards of using them.


TCM Indications of Common Herbs in Hungary (presentation in English)

Speaker: Zhu Liang, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) lecturer at the Confucius Institute

The audience can learn about the use of those herbs which are known in Hungary and are used in Traditional Chinese Medicine.


Herbology at the Foot of Mecsek (Exhibition)


Opening: 19 May 2022, 15:30

Location: Klimo Library (Szepesy Ignác str. 3.)

Representative selection of European and Hungarian horticultural literature and herbaria presented by the Klimo Library, highlighting the development and impact of natural sciences in relation to Pécs. On the occasion of the anniversary of the foundation of the University’s Botanical Garden, the history of the garden and various botanical researches related to the university and Pécs will be presented. In addition to special volumes and hand-painted illustrations, the exhibition will also feature photographs by György Mánfai.
