Open Access publishing

What is Open Access?

The aim of Open Access is to make scientific results freely available to anyone, thus facilitating the free flow of knowledge and the wider use of research results. Our University strongly supports the practice of Open Science and provides a range of funding opportunities for UP faculty, researchers and PhD students to promote Open Access publishing.

How does PTE support Open Access publishing?

You will find two methods of Open Access financing on our website, both of which are administered by the University Library and Knowledge Centre.

Some faculties are able to provide additional Open Access funding for their own researchers and teachers. For further information on these opportunities, you may wish to contact the administration of the relevant faculty.

Contractual agreements

UQA-PTE Open Access Fund

The university has contracts with 14 publishers, allowing you to publish your articles with them on a supported basis.

See the list of contracted publishers here!

We accept invoices from any publisher with whom we do not have a contractual agreement.

Only certain types of journals and articles specified by the publisher are eligible.

We accept articles published in journals indexed by WOS or Scopus with at least Q2 classification.

The corresponding author of the publication must be a teacher, researcher or PhD student at the University of Pécs.

The first, last or corresponding author of the publication must be a teacher, researcher or PhD student at the University of Pécs.

Upon submission of the article, the publisher identifies the author, and payment for the article is made through the consortium in the background.

The author must request an invoice for the APC fee (based on the terms and conditions set out) and submit it via the request form.

Additional grants
In addition to these forms of support, the University has a membership agreement with the publisher MDPI, which entitles UP authors to a 10% discount, but the corresponding author is responsible for paying the invoice. Details of the discount:

            • ·        Membership of the Institutional Open Access Programme (IOAP) entitles PTE faculty to a 10% discount.
            • ·        The publisher deducts the discount from the Article Processing Charge (APC).
            • ·        Articles are identified by affiliation and institutional e-mail address (.pte.hu).
            • ·        The corresponding author is responsible for settling the invoice.
            • ·        The author(s) can choose from the list of journals.
            • ·        If the chosen journal meets the criteria, the author can also request support from the UQA-PTE Open Access Fund for the article.
            • ·      The publisher's AI guidelines are available on the publisher's page on publication ethics.
