An understanding of psychology—specifically the psychology behind how users behave and interact with digital interfaces—is perhaps the single most valuable nondesign skill a designer can have. The most elegant design can fail if it forces users to conform to the design rather than working within the "blueprint" of how humans perceive and process the world around them.

The texts in this volume represent the current theory, research and practice on the use of gel materials for treatment processes in the conservation of objects of art and surfaces in the built environment. The range of gels featured includes those drawn from the biological, cosmetic and food industries, as well as emerging products created specifically for conservation purposes.

The papers collected in this volume are the fruits of the Desalination project - a European research project which involved representatives of the private sector, universities, industry, research centres and public authorities. This project examined the use of poultices to treat salt damage problems in porous objects (a widespread standard practice for at least three decades in cultural heritage conservation). However, as with many conservation interventions, while the poultice materials are (in large part) removable, the effects of this treatment are non-reversible.

This manual is a comprehensive illustrated overview of the minerals and textures seen in polarized light microscopy of cultural artefacts. It focuses on the specific applications of thin-section petrography to the study of cultural materials made of stone (as found in architecture, sculpture, tools etc.) and ceramic objects (earthenware, stoneware, porcelain, brick and tile, etc.). The reader can learn the techniques used to identify and characterize such materials; to differentiate between them; to monitor the extent of their deterioration; to determine where they may have originated; and to interpret their fabrication, decoration, and history of use. The author has selected the most representative cultural materials for which thin-section petrography has been used as a major research tool and conducted a thorough survey of the literature indicating landmark publications from the past and more recent scholarship.

A Gerhard Richter. Valós látszat című tárlat a negyedik kiállítás a Szépművészeti Múzeumnak a németországi képzőművészet 1945 utáni tendenciáira fókuszáló sorozatában. A Szépművészeti Múzeum 2012-ben Günther Uecker Képpé formált anyag című tárlatával indította el a sorozatot, amelyet 2014-ben Jörg Immendorff Éljen a festészet! című kiállítása követett. A sorozat harmadik része Georg Baselitz. Újrajátszott múlt címmel volt látható 2017-ben. A bemutatókkal a második világháború utáni Németország képzőművészeti jelenségeit és egy-egy meghatározó irányzat legemblematikusabb, mára világhírűvé vált alakját ismertetjük meg a magyar közönséggel.

Gerhard Richter művészete több szempontból is érdekes a magyarok számára: összeköt bennünket a bonyolult és fordulatokban bővelkedő közös múlt és Közép-Európa, ahol az eredetileg keletnémet alkotó élete első mintegy harminc évét töltötte. Richter 1932-ben Drezdában született, Kelet-Németországot 1961-ben hagyta el, s jelenleg Kölnben él.
