A cultural psychology of music education

Recent studies in music education have investigated the ways in which different groups construe music and music education, and the ways in which these constructions are culturally bound. A Cultural Psychology of Music Education explores the ways in which the discipline of cultural psychology can contribute to our understanding of how music learning and development occurs in a range of cultural settings, and the subsequent implications of such understanding for the theory and practice of music education.

Musical imaginations : multidisciplinary perspectives on creativity, performance, and perception

Musical imagination and creativity are amongst the most abstract and complex aspects of musical behaviour, though, until recently, they have been difficult to subject to empirical enquiry. However, music psychology and some allied disciplines have now developed, both theoretically and methodologically, to the point where some of these topics are now firmly within our grasp. The study of creativity and imagination is growing rapidly in disciplines including psychology, sociology, neuroscience, and education. The inter- and multidisciplinary study of music, and developments in music psychology in particular, mean that studies of musical imagination and creativity in action are now distinctly possible

A decade of negative thinking : essays on art, politics, and daily life

A Decade of Negative Thinking brings together writings on contemporary art and culture by the painter and feminist art theorist Mira Schor. Mixing theory and practice, the personal and the political, she tackles questions about the place of feminism in art and political discourse, the aesthetics and values of contemporary painting, and the influence of the market on the creation of art. Schor writes across disciplines and is committed to the fluid interrelationship between a formalist aesthetic, a literary sensibility, and a strongly political viewpoint. Her critical views are expressed with poetry and humor in the accessible language that has been her hallmark, and her perspective is informed by her dual practice as a painter and writer and by her experience as a teacher of art.

Philip Guston : collected writings, lectures, and conversations

This is the premier collection of dialogues, talks, and writings by Philip Guston (1913–1980), one of the most intellectually adventurous and poetically gifted of modern painters. Over the course of his life, Guston’s wide reading in literature and philosophy deepened his commitment to his art—from his early Abstract Expressionist paintings to his later gritty, intense figurative works. This collection, with many pieces appearing in print for the first time, lets us hear Guston’s voice—as the artist delivers a lecture on Renaissance painting, instructs students in a classroom setting, and discusses such artists and writers as Piero della Francesca, de Chirico, Picasso, Kafka, Beckett, and Gogol.

EU Law after Lisbon

Offers the first extended analysis of the implementation and impact of the Lisbon Treaty, a process currently profoundly changing EU law and policy Sets the reforms introduced by the Treaty against the broader background of the recent development of EU law, providing a rounded contextual understanding Contributors to the volume include leading academics in the field, EU officials, and legal practitioners involved in negotiating and implementing the Treaty Many of the most controversial areas of reform initiated by the Lisbon Treaty were not negotiated in the Treaty itself, but left to be resolved during its implementation. Since the Treaty's entry into force, the implementation process has already had a profound impact on many areas of EU law and policy, and consolidated new areas of power, such as over foreign investment. This collection gathers leading specialists in the field to analyse the Treaty's implementation and the directions of legal reform post-Lisbon. Drawing on a range of expertise to assess and comment on the Treaty, the contributors include both academics and practitioners involved in negotiating and implementing the Treaty. Focusing on the central issues and changes resulting from the Lisbon Treaty, the contributors examine the Treaty in the broader background of how the EU, and EU law in particular, has been developing in recent years and provide a contextual understanding of the future direction of EU law in the post-Lisbon era.

Art, mind, and brain : a cognitive approach to creativity

Old and new papers on artistic development by the Harvard psychologist--without the focus or fullness of Artful Scribbles (1980). Gardner speaks as a cognitive psychologist worshipful of past masters, but unsatisfied by the severe rationality the discipline has imposed on developmental studies. Some years ago, he joined with like-minded colleagues in Harvard Project Zero (because nothing was known), a program to study creativity--and the affective component involved--via research on children, brain-damaged individuals, and talented artists. The psychologists might begin a fairy tale, for example, leaving out all emotional or motivational statements, and ask a child to finish it.

The End of Art : environmental landscapes

Long considered a pioneer creator of ecological artworks for urban environments, Alan Sonfist has been fusing human history and the natural environment since the mid-1960s. Few artists have had such an unswerving, or generative, interest in the landscape--be it physical, social, or historical--that surrounds us. Alan Sonfist is that rare species of artist--not just a pioneer in a particular form or approach but a real trailblazer whose ideas have remained consistently interesting over the course of an entire career. No history of post-war art would be complete without an acknowledgement of his achievement.

Wolfgang Laib

Leginkább a Tejköveiről (Milchstein) híres, melyeket 1975-től készít.
