A kiállítás mintegy nyolcvan-száz Cézanne festményt, rajzot és akvarellt, valamint 16. - 19. századi mesterek harminc-negyven alkotását (festményeket, szobrokat, gipszmásolatokat, metszeteket, illusztrált könyveket) mutatja be. Paul Cézanne bonyolult alkotó: „Az impresszionizmusból valami szilárdat, állandót akartam csinálni, olyat, mint a múzeumok művészete." – vallotta.
